At BuenaVista, your privacy matters. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We will never sell your personal data.

- Account information — your username, email address, and password hash (stored securely using bcrypt). You may optionally provide a bio, social links, and a profile avatar.
- Location posts — the names, descriptions, photos, coordinates, and categories of places you choose to share on the platform.
- Social interactions — likes, comments, follows, saved locations, and collections you create.
- Usage data — pages visited, referrer URLs, browser type, device type, and approximate IP-based location, collected via server logs for security and analytics purposes.
- Communications — if you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence to respond to your inquiry.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the BuenaVista platform.
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure.
- Display your public profile and shared locations to other users.
- Send transactional emails (email verification, password resets).
- Investigate abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and comply with legal obligations.
- Generate aggregated, anonymized analytics to understand how the platform is used.
We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
BuenaVista uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the platform. Each has its own privacy policy:
Our database provider, hosted on cloud infrastructure. Your data is stored securely with encryption at rest.
Privacy Policy →Used to store, optimize, and serve user-uploaded images. Photos you upload are sent to ImageKit's CDN.
Privacy Policy →An optional translation widget. When used, your page content may be sent to Google's servers for translation.

5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and associated data are removed from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal compliance or abuse prevention. User-generated content (location posts, comments) that other users have interacted with may be anonymized rather than deleted to preserve community context.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data via your profile settings.
- Delete your account and associated data at any time.
- Object to certain uses of your data.
- Port a copy of your data (available upon request by email).
